What is good nutrition?
Many people have ideas about what healthy eating entails, however ensuring your body gets all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs is required for optimal health.

Your daily food choices make a big impact on your health – the foods you consume today affect you a week or more from now.

Signs of Good Nutrition

Good nutrition affects your energy levels, immune health, maintain a healthy weight, be able to concentrate, stay motivated, have good digestion and sleep well.

Good nutrition can also improve your sense of wellbeing, lower high cholesterol and blood pressure, improve your ability to recover from illness or injury and reduce the risk of diseases from diabetes, cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and stroke.

The best nutrition comes from a whole foods diet – eat close to nature with foods like eggs, apples, berries, tomatoes, kale, cucumbers, nuts and seeds, fresh fish, lean chicken, whole wheat.  Include healthy fats like avocadoes, olive oil, flax seeds or hemp seeds. Avoid processed and packaged foods, foods high in salt or saturated fats.

Signs of Poor Nutrition

If the diet is too heavy in processed and packaged foods, the poor nutrition will be the result.
An important sign of poor nutrition is unexplained fatigue – which can be due to iron deficiency which can lead to anemia indicated by a low count of red blood cells.

Vegans and vegetarians are often at risk of iron deficiency – however vegans can find good sources of iron in dried beans, lentils, dark leafy greens, chickpeas, tofu, cashew nuts, chia seeds, ground linseed, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, kale and dried apricots.

Along with unexplained fatigue, apathy and irritability is another sign of poor nutrition.
Poor nutrition affects the digestive system and can cause diarrhea, gas, bloating or constipation.

Poor nutrition can cause brittle or dry hair and lead to skin problems such as acne, dry skin, a puffy face (means you need more healthy fats) red face (often caused by inflammation), or wrinkled forehead (caused by too much sugar).

Poor nutrition can lead to trapped toxins in the body and make it difficult to lose weight.
